Professor Pitt (a.k.a. Philip T. Colas) is a 33-year-old African American rapper, hip hop artist, martial arts practitioner, teacher, and filmmaker who has produced two films of a trilogy around the theme of Kung Fu Meets Hip Hop. He is also a television journalist and music producer. His most recent album, The Organic Equation, touches on themes such as ancestral roots, meditation and social change.

His goal in working with youth is to provide an alternative hip hop that focuses on youth development and community building without the influence of the mainstream corporate image that exploits the medium.

He is working with Matthew Fox to present an intergenerational and interracial after-hours wisdom school called YELLAWE (Youth and Elders Learning Laboratory for Ancestral Wisdom Education). The pedagogy is based on Fox's new book, The A.W.E. Project, which emphasizes the arts, youth development, social and ecological justice, while also developing inner disciplines ranging from martial arts to chanting/meditation and other contemplative practices.

Pitt's films are "The Hip Hop Dynasty" and "Hip Hop Dynasty Part II" produced by Dirty Lenz Films. Pitt was executive producer and artistic director for both films, as well as actor and film editor. From 1992 to 1997 he was producer of a 60-minute hip hop culture television show on Channel 14 Public Access in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Back to Matthew Fox.
